Revisionist History and the Paradigm Shift

Peace be with you

“‘By 2050 — earlier, probably — all real knowledge of Oldspeak will have disappeared. The whole literature of the past will have been destroyed. Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Byron — they’ll exist only in Newspeak versions, not merely changed into something different, but actually changed into something contradictory of what they used to be. Even the literature of the Party will change. Even the slogans will change. How could you have a slogan like “freedom is slavery” when the concept of freedom has been abolished? The whole climate of thought will be different. In fact there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking — not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.”
– George Orwell, (1984)

Yesterday the State of Texas voted to rewrite their public school books. Now instead of calling the enslavement of Africans “the slave trade,” Texas wants it to be called “the Atlantic Triangular Trade.” Normally one would think, “just because a bunch of conservative christian rightwingers usurped the the Texas School board, why should I be concerned way out here in California?” The problem comes from the fact that school book publishers don’t write different school books for every State.

California, the country’s biggest school book purchaser, has put a moratorium on school book purchases until 2014. This makes Texas the biggest purchaser, and as such will be free to rewrite the nations school books to “emphasize the roles of capitalism, Christianity and G.O.P. political figures.” There is a real danger that these “changes” will change the way we look at our story. As the Evil earthling from Avatar said, “blast a hole in their cultural memory so large they wont come within a 1000 clicks of this place.”

For more on the lunacy from Texas, here is a brief history on how the take over of the Texas State Board of Education happened. Read this: article by Mariah Blake. To get an idea at how insane these changes will be read this: list by the Texas Freedom Network.

Comments made by several of the “ultra-conservative” people directly involved with the school book rewrites seem racist. David Barton, former Vice Chair of the Texas Republican Party, put it, “Only majorities can expand political rights in America’s constitutional society.” Bill Ames, claimed, “there is an overrepresentation of minority content.” The chair of the Texas State Board of Education, Don McLeroy, said that women and other minorities owe their civil rights to the white, male, majority.

This is a classic example of what is called a paradigm shift. I first ran into the concept of paradigm shifts in a publication by the US department of Health and Human Services called, “Ending Chronic Street Homelessness.” The publication recommended “utilizing a trigger event” to create a “paradigm shift.” A paradigm shift is when “one conceptual world view is replaced by another.”

Like so many other scientific discoveries, the paradigm shift was stolen from the sciences and applied to the black arts of the pseudo-sciences. In science when a new discovery is proven, and becomes widely accepted as self-evident, that change is called “a paradigm shift.” In pseudo-science a think-tank plan implemented on society to force a change in our “conceptual world view” is what they call, “a paradigm shift.”

With all the experimentation done in the craft of behavioral and social pseudo-sciences do you really question whether they have figure out the pattern in the paradigm shift, ergo utilizing, or creating, a “trigger event” to create a paradigm shift of their choosing? I learned what I write here from books readily available to anyone, it is no secret past the point no one wants to admit they are manipulating their community for their own profit.

Paradigm shifts are not overnight sensations. They take years, even generations. In 1950 most mental health workers would seriously argue that mental illness is not an illness. Yet by 1970, despite no more evidence than existed in 1950, it was widely accepted as an illness. Free trade economics, brain chemistry mental health, unfit parenting, illegal drug dangers, what is a criminal and even our social morals, and history have all been pushed through pseudo-scientific paradigm shifts.

The case at hand is a classic example of how the Republican, christian right, people who believe the Flintstones are historically accurate, are working on rewriting history. The steps of creating a paradigm shift are simple, but the implementation is long and requires a well organized, dedicated, black magician. Invent it in the “think-tank,” manipulate it into legislation, then educate a generation that the new history is the old history, is how one creates a paradigm shift.

That is exactly how the Free trade economics paradigm shift was implemented. A small group conceive it, a group was educated in it, it was test run under Pinochet’s fascist government, called a success, and then taught through out the world. Now even after the The Keating Five, the Enron, the AIG, and the on going BP spill, free market disasterism is the only suggested form of economic system. Instead of changing the term “capitalism” to “free enterprise,” as the Texas school book writers now mandate, it should more correctly be termed “monopoly capitalism.” (I leave that last statement for the reader to contemplate, but simply asking yourself, “who is better off?, and who is worse?” might provide a lot of guidance on the question.)

Paradigm shifts always use what Orwell called doublethink – “The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.” “Best-practices,” “evidenced-based,” “free-trade,” and the new doublethink for “capitalism” , “free enterprise,” are all examples of statements which if true would be good, but are used untrue for evil. The definition of any one of these words by themselves is discernible, but once they’re hyphenated you know they were defined in think-tanks to change one’s “conceptual world view.”

Evidence-based is a good example of a doublethink term. This term was strongly used by a board trying to push the “Texas Medication Algorithm Program” through in Texas. Logic says if 20 out of 100 get better on sugar pills, then you can figure that 20 out of 100 get better whether the pill your testing does anything or not. Taking that into consideration then only 1 to 5% of those receiving anti-psychotic treatment are getting positive results. Not to mention that most of the studies, especially the negative results, are carefully guarded secrets by the pharmaceutical corporations. Medication Algorithm Programs, which mandate drugs first, are based on evidence that only a few of all the people getting these drugs are actually being helped. Yet they call it, “evidence-based.”

Though an occasional natural paradigm shift occurs, most are contrived in think-tanks. Natural paradigm shifts, like revolutions, global catastrophes, and spiritual awakenings, only have one thing in common – the think-tanks eventually takes control of the momentum. It’s called disaster capitalism. It doesn’t matter if it was the US, the French, the Russian, the British or the 60s revolutions, they all end with a more severely controlling government than the one it revolted against. Big money, which today is referred to as, “corporations” and “foundations,” control these think-tanks.

Those who shift paradigms use natural disasters, acts of violence, and deception of the size of both support, and extent of the disasters, to change the way we look at fundamental beliefs. Hitler made the people of the world believe he represented the view of the majority of the German people with only a small, but violent, group of followers. The Riechstag fire alone didn’t silence the dissent, it took Hitler’s propaganda machine most of the war to implement his paradigm shift. Changing what the German children learned was one of the methods he used to shift the paradigm towards a white, male superiority.

Recognizing how they manipulate you into accepting your own demise is just the first of many urgent steps we must take if we are to turn this ship around. When enough people say, “no way” to the propagandized doublethink and newspeak, when enough people demand proof, then perhaps a non-manipulated paradigm shift will happen.

Nations are not communities and never have been. The history of any country, presented as the history of a family, conceals the fierce conflicts of interest (sometimes exploding, often repressed) between conquerors and conquered, masters and slaves, capitalists and workers, dominators and dominated in race and sex. And in such as world of conflict, a world of victims and executioners, it is the job of thinking people, as Albert Camus suggested, not to be on the side of the executioners.”

Constable, do you watch Glenn Beck? David Barton, a far right winger brags that he helped take over the Texas school board with conservatives.

Your notions of the “hard left” come straight from the holes at Fox Propaganda outlet.
