Why boycott KHUM?

Peace be wiith you

I hear from a few people who express concern I am jepordizing Michael Moore’s job. Moore has a nine to fiver. I haven’t publicly called for you to boycott that corporation, though personally it has become a decision in my choice patterns.

Moore is a weekend DJ on public airwaves. He uses, intended or not, his celebritiness to promote his blog.

I DO NOT want people to visit his blog, and promote its ratings. Nor do I want people contacting his home.

But I do want that blog taken down!!!

He is a public celebrity who has a blog denigrating one, and only one, class of people. KHUM is a public radio station who employees Moore, and by default creates the celebritism. They have people paid to answer those phones, and will be appreciative of your calls. After all KHUM wants to be a good neighbor, even if Moore doesn’t.

Tad, you’re censoring free speech? You mean to tell me we have something in common! This is a suprise, I too have thought that giving the slaves the right to free speech was a bone headed decision on the part of government. Of course you are one of the useless eaters so your free speech should be curtailed as well. I would be most pleased if you and the others of your inhuman kind would learn to shut the fuck up and only speak when spoken to! At least Mr. Moore is pulling his weight in society whilst you are at the library stinking the place up typing your nonsense on blogs when you should be finding a way to clean yourself up and actually serve society in some way you flithy god forsaken hypocritical bum!

No worries. Critical words from Tad won’t jeopardize anyone’s employment.

Besides, he works on a campus where the region beyond the ‘the gates’ was once likened to South Central LA. If they won’t fire an administrator (not Moore) for that, they sure won’t care about a blog containing legal photography.

No one claims that there aren’t local people trying to better themselves (become more or less self-sufficient) who use the Endeavor’s services. I imagine most of those people are quite busy with their struggle. The stereotypes come from the individuals who stand around in public engaging in various behaviors that the greater population finds objectionable.

You’re a bigot. You profile people’s homes in order to incite angst and fear against them. The only people you target are those you believe to be houseless. You endorse ideas such as: “‘that if we don’t feed them and allow them to sleep that the problem will just go away,’ and good riddance.”

This county has had a long history of these types of assaults on a class. The Indian Island Massacre, and the expulsion of the Chinese are the most notorious. Prior to both the putting the noose in Chinatown Eureka, or pushing off the boats towards the island, there was plenty of bigoted hate speech inciting those actions. Like yours!

    Sick old school buses.

Anyway Michael Moore Jr., how do you suppose Arcata would be better or could be better? What do you think Arcata should be doing?

Here’s my take: everything that could be done to make things better is blatantly fucking obvious but nobody wants to do it.

There is shit in alleys, shit in garbage cans, shit in the bushes, shit in the street. Public bathroom? No, that would be too expensive. Much cheaper for everybody to just have shit all over the place.

People are camping everywhere. Camping under trailers, in the woods, under the overpass, on the railroad tracks, in front of businesses. Hell, some folks are even camping in backyards. Have a legal camp? Naw, that would be too much trouble. It’s way easier to just have random bodies sleeping anywhere and everywhere.

Sick old school buses are parked everywhere. Shit is all Fuck Yeah. Hippies blazing weed, smoking bogeys, trading hemp string jewelry for cash, buying cheap wine… generally living the bus life. Damn buses parked all up on the street. Parked here, parked there. So, parking lot? Again, too hard, better to just let residents deal with buses.

I think things could be better, people are just unwilling to have a clue and pool together some ducats to solve the whole park/camp/shit problem. If people just try to ignore what’s going on, guess what? Same shit, different day. Government sure as hell isn’t gonna clean anything up.

Hey how many posts have been censured from this thread?
    Parts read like Swiss Cheese.

Are you really comparing “Arcata Can Be Better ” to the Indian Island Massacre? Really? Do you also believe you are a balanced individual Tad?

Mr. Nice I think it is hard to come up with ideas about “what to do about the homeless” because it is such a counter intuitive problem. How do you help people who don’t want to fit in? How do you make transient people’s lives better on THEIR terms while avoiding negative impacts to permanent residents. You aren’t going to get anywhere without the cooperation/tolerance of the permanent residents right?

Tad, for all the trying and bitching over the years has anything that the City of Arcata has spent it’s money on been worthwhile for the homeless in the long run, or has it all been putting band-aids on wounds that wont heal? What do you think the ratio would be, if we were accountants, of useful$$$spentbyarcataonhomeless:wastled$$$spentbyarcataonhomeless.

Suppose it all comes down to this, Tad needs a job to support his needs in society and to provide for those less fortunate then himself. What are you going to do? I censored 8 comments. All 8 were by a guy named Nick Bravo. Bravo has been informed in the past that I would not let him pretend to be local community members (he doesn’t even live in California). It is a form of counterfeiting and slander. I am amused by what Bravo says, but not when it has the moniker of “Micheal Moore” or “Harmony Groves.” Those people can speak for themselves.

No, I am not comparing ACBB with the Indian island massacre, I am comparing it to the mentality of those massacrers just prior to the massacre. It is the same “run ’em out of town” thought pattern.

I am balanced, but probably not in the way you are referring to here. I am left of left! I am on the side of the people, so no I will not propagate the lies. If you have read me here, or listened to other places you will find I never deviate from my stance. So if by balance you mean insanely jumping from stand to stand I won’t be considered balanced.

Lets look at what you wrote to Mr. Nice. You wrote, “what to do about the homeless . . . is such a counter intuitive problem” How so? Hungry people need to be fed, unsheltered people need shelter, and people who need to shit need a place to shit. That doesn’t seem “counter intuitive” to me. Perhaps because every time one of those solutions is proposed nimbys like you scream them away, your confused about what is counter intuitive, and what is just evilness.

Next you wrote, “[houseless] people don’t want to fit in.” What the fuck! Prove it! I would turn dowwn a dinner invitation at your fucking house 10 out of 10 times, that doesn’t mean I don’t eat at lots of peoples houses. I doubt there are many in the world who “fit in” to your view of who they should be.

As far as “their terms” (emphasis omitted) goes, yea, and so? The Jews in nazi Germany would have liked it to be on “their terms,” wouldn’t of they? I see it more of them not wanting YOUR terms than them wanting their terms. That is natural, and in no way counter intuitive, with any oppressed people.

And what do you mean by “permanent residents?” It is my understanding that in California if your are not a resident anywhere else you are a resident where your at. Sure any of us, you included, could move, and all of us will eventually die. Houseless people are only “transient” because of the counter intuitiveness of the current solutions.

Yes, some of what the city spent money on did good. No, most of it was wasted on unfruitful policies designed to employ poverty pimps. The national average is that only about 1 cent out of every dollar actually goes towards food, shelter, or other direct need of the houseless community. And we spent nothing on stress, harm, or bigotry reduction.

I want to grow up to be an activist fighting for those who have no voice. I want to dedicate my time to healing the broken, and protecting the weak from the powerful who are oppressing them. I want to advocate for the unhoused, the emotionally broken, and those attempting to make this a more loving, non-hierarchical, egalitarian society for those without bourgeoisie privilege. I want to do the work of my Father.

Don’t apologize for your “rant.” It is good to bring this type of rhetoric to light so it can be debunked. I mean your ignorance of this subject caused you to make a whole bunch of really stupid, unsupported, claims. I’m sure others out there have succumbed to belive in the same hate speech that caused you to get it so wrong.

What ever dude, it’s your blog, here you get to be THE MAN, but don’t you think you are being a tad harsh by calling me a ignorant purveyor of hate speech. You are the one bringing up jews in nazi germany, you are the one censoring your enemies, making just as many unsupported claims as I did, maybe more.

So please I just gotta know, suppose, or pretend that, GOD, JAH, or THE FATHER one day tells you directly to your face that they want you to get a job and pay your taxes, where would you drop your first three job applications. most people could do this.

I think that for all your passion, your work on this planet for your brothers hasn’t added up to much. I think you would rather yell then discuss. I think you have hate in your heart. it might not have been put there by you, but it is there.

those aren’t claims they are opinions.

I also think that if you brushed up your skill set and started acting like a human being to all the human beings around you that you could use your passion for something truly good.

  29. theplazoid Says:

Hate speech is speech perceived to disparage a person or group of people based on their social or ethnic group,[1] such as race, gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, language ability, ideology, social class, occupation, appearance (height, weight, skin color, etc.), mental capacity, and any other distinction that might be considered by some as a liability..”

I live, associate, and work with houseless people every day. Not Monday thru Friday, but everyday. I know for a fact that most houseless people want to “fit in,” but they don’t want to be resigned to second class people. You can’t find houseless people who “don’t want to work.” You might find a few who wouldn’t do anything for money, but they all want work. We are all ignorant of those things we are ignorant of. You just happen to repeat the spin that is the common stereotyping of the houseless. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, assuming you just didn’t know any better. Are you now saying that you really do know better, but are intentionally lying?

How does comparing the scapegoating done by the nazis in their build up to the Holocaust with the scapegoating done right now by people like you make me “harsh?” I’ve studied the shit out this subject. Whenever one group starts genociding another group, they always make up, exaggerate, and publicly state lies about those being genocided.

Yes I said genocide. Research tells us houseless people die 10 years earlier than there housed counterpart. Today, according to Humboldt County department of Health and Human Services, 130% to 160% of all houseless people are “mentally ill.” The county solution for these made up statictics are to put every houseless person they can catch on atypical antipsychotics. Research tells us that anti-psychotic use shortens life an additional 15 years. That repersents 25 years of life taken from the adverage houseless person. Though that is all fact, I will agree it is my opinion that this is just Auschwitz in a pill.

Unlike your lack of knowledge (ignorance defined) of the realities of homelessness, I believe you are intelligent enough to understand the realities of the current economic situation. Though the big bubble burst is only a year or so old, zero net jobs have been created since 2000, and we had unemployed before then. In other words there is a shit load of people who can not find work. I don’t believe that you don’t know this, I believe you are intentionally ignoring this so you can insist houseless people “get a job.” If I’m wrong it simply means your ignorant about this too.

It is rather creepy all your questions about where I would “drop” three applications. First I wouldn’t get a job which required an “application.” Why should I suppose, or pretend, something that will never happen. If Father, or Mother for that matter, ever tells me something “directly” it wont fucking be that. I would imagine it would be more like “preach the gospel to the poor; . . . heal the brokenhearted, . . . preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, . . . set at liberty them that are bruised..”

As far as not “adding up to much” goes: I don’t ring that bell. I let those who don’t believe it adds up to much, believe it doesn’t. I am just a red herring to those who wish to ignore the truth about our current “free trade” economy. That truth is that our economy has failed to create enough jobs, and social safety nets, to prevent the largest number of unhoused people in our nations history. It aint about me! Its about those being run out of town.

I heard a thousand blended notes
While in a grove I sate reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.

To her fair works did Nature link
    The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What Man has made of Man.

Through primrose tufts, in that sweet bower,
    The periwinkle trail’d its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
    Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopp’d and play’d,
    Their thoughts I cannot measure,—
But the least motion which they made
It seem’d a thrill of pleasure.

The budding twigs spread out their fan
    To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
    That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What Man has made of Man?

The illusion is falling away. Eventually those that know the truth will be of large enough numbers, that those maintaining the Leye will be societies outcasts. Nobody works harder at maintaining the “Leye,” than those hate mongering people at the Arcata [L]Eye tabloid.

If you can’t see the direct correlations between the idea that the unhoused are “inferiors” in Arcata today, and unhoused people were “inferiors” in Nazi Germany, then you haven’t studied your history. But that’s okay cause you work for a boss who makes shit up anyway. Using the truth would require you to be knowledgeable, while making shit up only requires a lack of soul.

  53. Terrence McNally Says:

Always with the Nazis… this blog’s like Mel Brooks, just not as entertaining.

I imagine we’re all here because this is a comparatively tolerant. You arrived here, Tad, houseless and unemployed and have found a home and work. Certainly you landlords and employers must be some of the most-tolerant Arcatans around.

The only intolerance I’m reading is when somebody wonders out loud why people are leaving their trash around, the Tadster tells him he’s a… Nazi. Again. Nazis everywhere.

Anyway, my definition of deadbeat, which I should have clarified, doesn’t account for their employment status – just folks in general who leave their crap around for others to clean up. I don’t think either of us want to assume the unemployed are messy people. Or that people who think you’re full of shit are Nazis.

    • transient Says:

That’s just dumb, McJerkface. I have complained plenty to tad about transients trashing some nice little corner of A-town, and he’s never called me a nazi. Have you ever noticed how pretty everyone tad calls is nazi is pretty much a jerk?

  54. Terrence McNally Says:

    Typo! “your landlords.” Apologies.

  55. theplazoid Says:

    Peace be with you Terrence

Always with the nazi denial. . .

It seems funny that “leaving crap” now becomes the subject of my blog. I am against the targeting, and scapegoating. It seems that you have completely change the definition of deadbeat, and that might explain why you don’t know what a nazi is. My definition of a nazi is someone who whips up hate, resentment, and harm because they believe they are superior in race, status, religion etc towards those they whip up hate against. A nazi is someone who believes the undesirables should be removed from the society. A nazi is someone who advocates the taking of the “undesirables” possessions, and gloats about it when some poor person loses his/her home.

Now to the point at hand. Moore doesn’t run an anti-trash blog. He runs an anti-houseless blog. I know it is hard for someone who believes all houseless people are exactly as bad as the worst case scenario, to beelieve they are in fact individuals. But, that is typical of bigots, and nowhere more evident than during the reign of the nazis bigotry. Moore does not differentiate between clean buses and and messy ones. Like you said, “I don’t think either of us want to assume the unemployed are messy people,” and that is true of houseless people also.

Am I intolerant of nazi type agendas? Abso-fucking-lutely! I’m not alone in this either. I call ’em the way I see ’em. It might interest you to know that it wasn’t the Nazis who made up this shit either – next Thursday, marks the 150 year anniversary of the Humboldt version of “we don’t like your kind.” I think you should be at least comfortable enough with who you are to admit you would of proudly written the Humboldt Times editorial which said, ““For the past four years we have advocated two—and only two—alternatives for ridding our country of Indians: either remove them to some reservation or kill them. ”

Lastly I would like to say that if you see me working for someone in this county more than once, then you can take my word they are the “most-tolerant,” and most compassionate too I might add, Arcatans around. Nobody should work for assholes – even you. “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

  56. Terrence McNally Says:

Dunno bout all that. My definition of deadbeat is someone who is lazy – in this case, too lazy to clean up after themselves. I don’t care where they’re living or what they have in the bank account. If that’s elitism, then I’m all for it. And an accurate definition of Nazis would be National Socialists in 1920s-40s Austria and Germany. When you throw it around a lot, people might be wondering what you’re saying. And then the repetition thing… well, you’re familiar with losing your audience during multiple public comments.

There are other terms that might be less confusing. Looks like you’ve got “asshole” down pretty good. Fascist… that’s probably been overdone, like the socialist thing. Um… how about “someone I don’t agree with” or “someone who has differing values.” Then you won’t be hurting people’s feelings with clumsy rhetoric and they might… I don’t know, listen to what you have to say once in a while. Save the Nazi thing up for when, eh, there are actual Nazis instead of a guy who posts photos of fugly buses in his neighborhood. Then we’ll all be like, holy shit, Tad’s got a Nazi sighting. Thankfully his blog is all over it.

But yeah, I wrote a paper about the Wiyot Massacre when I was a freshman in college. Sounds like we both agree that was a bad thing.

But seriously. I am the winner of this argument. I have said the things that are correct. And you have said the things that are wrong.

  59. theplazoid Says:

I believe you are, what is called in logic, begging the question. Its a fallacy by the way. You have obscured the issue, and used many logical fallacies in your argument. Now you claim you win and I lose because, why? I have given you multiple examples of what your mind set is, but you project it on one, and a different one each time I might add, group, and sarcastically claim I am accusing you of that. But, that too was how the nazis pushed through bigoted persecution.

I see no difference between, “The community rose up as a man and drove every Chinese out of the county,” and what you do to the houseless (http://www.northcoastjournal.com/060707/books0607.html).

Thank you for showing all my readers exactly what the [L]Eye is all about. First you denied any correlation between what the Nazis did to their houseless in the beginning, and what you and Moore are doing to them now. Of course your only argument is “you said so.” Besides “begging the question,” you also used the “false authority” fallacy.

Next you attacked houseless people by calling them deadbeats. Again the only authority you cite is you, still a false authority. Realizing your gap in logic, you then change the definition of deadbeat to mean litterer. That is just an incorrect arguement, and as such any conclusion is just an “argument from a fallacy.”

Then you make an “appeal from probabilities.” You contend that because we have tolerant people in Arcata that makes Moore, and yourself tolerant people. It is both a fallacy in your logic, and a kind of reverse stereotyping.

Then you throw out your “Red Herring.” It’s about trash. No it is not about trash, that is a separate problem with solutions already in place that does not require people to lose their homes. Of course you threw it into this conversation to distract from the issue of Moore’s hate mongering. Again a fallacy in your arguement.

You finish up by using the “cum hoc ergo propter hoc” fallacy to show that because you aren’t oppressing the Wiyots, you can’t be oppressing the houseless. They have no direct correlation and one doesn’t necessarily lead to the other.

Then you again beg the question by stating you are the winner. That really doesn’t require any discussion, because it is so obviously does not make you the winner. I think you are more like Leni Riefenstahl than Jesse Owens. You make your propaganda today, and will be lying about it tomorrow.

It is obvious that your whole argument is based on logical fallacies, and therefore holds little creditability. It has been pointed out how the words and actions of Moore’s blog, and your employer, are similar to the propaganda of past perpetrators of genocide. You merely have to replace the word “Jews,” “Indians,” or “Chinese” with the word “transient,” and we can see not only the same mindset, but often the same words. One can know a tree by its fruit, and I’d say your some kind of nut tree.

You replace words with other words and then those words become new words that attempt to obfuscate the fact that you’re a Nazi. I think you punch babies, too. My truth hurts, but you can be a better Nazi who doesn’t punch as many babies as before.

Then they came for the dude who washes his feet in the Plaza drinking fountain, and I said nothing because I was tripping on shrooms.

Then they came for me. The food was pretty shitty and I couldn’t score any PCP, but otherwise it wasn’t so bad.

  65. Terrence McNally Says:

And this Nazi wants to concentrate them in “dignity” camps. See that? That sentence alluded to “concentration camps.” He’s stated this publicly during 179 public comments. And that’s where the Nazis put their “undesirables.” In camps that were concentrated. See how I made that historic connection?

    Ergo, Tad is a Nazi.

It’s a classic and the rest of Bill’s stuff is all lovey dovey and frankly I can’t remember many other lines from the tragedies… there’s that one about “I’d like, totally trade my castle for a horse right about now…” “Protest” is definitely the go-to line in an argument when you want to say: “you’ve proven my point” but you want to sound even more intellectualized and erudititeetee. Shylock, the Jew, busted, and during a dramatic court scene. Little confused that you yanked it out since we’ve been talking about the Nazi thing and that was Bill’s most anti-Semitic play. On my first reading, I thought it might be a bad move on your part, but I can now see it was like a double-inverted irony statement from you. Cuz you meant that since Othello is black and then you’re attacking Moore for bigotry… who is black… and then remove the “e” and then Moore is The Moor and there’s a pound of flesh in there somewhere… OK, I admit… you kind of lost me during that part. But I’m sure this will all make sense when I read the Cliff Notes.

  70. theplazoid Says:

    Peace be with you Stooges

Look at that, the North Coast Journal, the Arcata Eye, and KHUM have joined forces to justify a very bigoted aganda. I pointed out again and again how your rhetoric copies, and in may places exactly, the rhetoric of people who supported genocide. Though these comparisons can not be, nor have been, argued against, you defend your actions by reversing the comparisons. Basically your responses are what one would expect from people of your type. It is easy to say it was the Jews who oppressed the nazis at Birkenau, but that doesn’t make it true.

There is no difference between all the other bigoted speech of the past and the statement, ““I am one of the people who believes “that if we don’t feed [the unhoused] and allow them to sleep that the problem will just go away”, and good riddance,” that we find on the bigot Moore’s blog.

You are circling the wagons attempting to cover your crimes with ad hominem attacks. You need to remember that most of the people reading this are not quite as alcohol addaled as the present commenters. In other words you are not as convencing as you think you are.

Terrence FYI the quote, “me thinks the lady doeth protest too much” is out of the play Hamlet. Shylock is a character out of the play “The Merchant of Venice.” The pound of flesh was also out of the “Merchant of Venice.” As I recall the trade my kingdom for a horse line came out of “Richard the Third.” Wasn’t that the line King Richard said when he lost his horse in the battle with Henry the Eighth? And lastly I believe that Othello was a character in the play Othello. I am confused why you would combine all these different plays to make it look as if I was really quoting something else. I suggest you actually read these plays before you start reading meanings into them that are not there. Perhaps if you stayed on the same book you wouldn’t confuse yourself so much.

The queen, Hamlet’s mother, said that line to indicate that it was the Queen in the play within the play, who was being dishonest. Kind of like when a tabloid reporter tries to defend his nazish beliefs by complaining about houseless people’s desire to have a legal place to sleep.

  76. Andy Says:

    Hello.

Firstly, this the first night I’ve looked at Mr. Moore’s blog and Tad’s blog here as well.

Secondly, I know Mr. Moore, Mr. McNally, and Mr. Hoover personally, though I wouldn’t say any of them extremely well.

Thirdly, I use to live in a Ford Econoline and then upgraded to a 1978 VW Bus in Arcata.

I put that all forward to show that I’m not necessarily coming from any “side” per se, nor am I here to win points from anyone, to be put on an imaginary scoreboard.

So I spent about ten minutes (or maybe closer to fifteen as I needed a break) reading this thread of comments. As time went on, I felt like I was witnessing a car accident. I really wanted to close my web browser and stop reading these comments (I know you know where I’m going with this metaphor). However, I couldn’t help but keep looking at the accidents as I “drove by”.

Although there are definitely substantive issues that could be discussed in this forum, it seems the potential for that to happen decreases post by post.

Now, it’s not too late to turn that around I hope, but as one who (again) has just begun watching this debate from the sidelines, I sadly feel like it will remain nothing more than “…sound and fury, signifying nothing.” (As it seems quoting The Bard is popular here)

So gentlemen, and gentlewomen, forget not what your goals are here. If it becomes no more than a pissing contest and a place to put people down and sling hyperbole, then consider one more reader who will leave the sidelines, not to return.

    Yours,
    Andy

Welcome, and your right this thread has exhausted its useful life. I still stand by what I wrote. The argument here is real simple: Is the use of the line “if we don’t feed them and allow them to sleep that the problem will just go away,” reminiscent of the rhetoric used by the Nazis, the indian island massacrers, and the people who ran the Chinese out of Eureka?

Those that came out with a resounding no to the above question are those who historically spouted that same rhetoric. Though those never said that the nazis were right or wrong, they definitely inferred that they feel justified making such statements when referring to local unhoused people.

I try not to go beyond the facts presented here, but there are definitely similarities between the above statement and the hate speech that predated the genocidal tendencies of earlier hate mongers.

If it has big floppy ears, a long trunk, weighs several tons, and is all gray, we may just have an elephant in the room. Isolating one and only one group to target, stereotype, and persecute is bigotry. It has no other explanation, and cant not be justified.
